Google’s Library of Chromecast Apps Grows Exponentially
You know that tiny adapter that lets users send streaming video, games and other fun stuff from mobile devices to the TV screen? That tiny infrastructure is known as the popular $35 Chromecast adapter and it is in for a whole lot of change!
In a recent article by Gigaom, more than 400 apps are now Google Cast-ready, which means that they are optimized and ready for the Chromecast adapter. Google launched this miniature streaming stick last July, and as of last week, users were satisfied with much anticipated release of a “Cast Screen” feature. This unbelievable feature allows Android device screen mirroring - sounds cool right?
Some of the apps with “featured” status now on the Chromecast include:
- Watch ESPN
- HBO Go
- Hulu Plus
- Google Play Movies & TV
- PBS Kids
- and much more!
The number of apps seems to only continue to expand. Last month, the director of project management for Chromecast, Rishi Chandra, said more than 6,000 registered developers are in the process of building about 10,000 Google Cast-based apps.
Don’t forget, the app catalog can be categorized by iOS, Android and web apps, making it easier to find the apps fit for your device. They can be sorted and then links to download each app either on Google Play or on the iOS App Store are offered.
This tiny adapter seems to be making waves in the app world. It will be interesting to see how it overtakes its competitor, Roku, who launched the HDMI-connected streaming stick in March.
